We are delighted to have another fertility expert on board, Dr Michael Schenk, who can provide us with advice and support on all topics relating to fertility, pregnancy and the desire to have children. Together with his wife Claudia, he has been running the Fertility Institute Dr Schenk in Dobl in Styria and has already helped countless desperate couples to fulfil their desire to have children after all.

Tip 1: Get professional help early on
If you don't get pregnant straight away, there's no need to worry. However, you and your partner should not wait too long and have a reproductive health check-up in good time to make sure that everything is in order from a purely biological point of view. As a rule of thumb, you should seek medical advice after 12 months if you are under 35 and after 6 months if you are over 35.

Tip 2: Make time for intimacy with your partner away from the pressure of "having" to get pregnant.
Make sure you don't lose the joy of sex despite the stress you put on yourself. Of course, it can kill the pleasure factor somewhat if you literally set yourself a clock for when and on which days you should have sex, so try to keep enjoying sex and not just see it as a 'means to an end'. Tip 3: Seek relaxation and distraction
Instead of always focussing on what's not working, try to find distraction and relaxation. This looks different for everyone, maybe spending time in nature or doing sports will help you. If you can manage it, you can also think about what it means for you to be parents. For example, you can read books on the subject or start planning what the nursery should look like.
Tip 4: Pay attention to a healthy lifestyle
Even if you are already pretty sure, we would like to remind you once again that a healthy diet and sufficient exercise are the be-all and end-all on your Fertility Journey. Pro tip: Tailor your training to your cycle, it will definitely increase your well-being.
Tip 5: Hang in there until pregnancy
What was that saying again? Fall down seven times, get up eight? The process of getting pregnant can be a long one, whether you are trying naturally or using aids such as IVF. Try not to be too hard on yourself and be patient.
As with so many things, with the Fertility Journey, the journey is the goal and you shouldn't give up or lose your optimism. However, if you're really struggling because you just can't get pregnant and you don't know what to do next, there's no shame in getting professional help and talking to a therapist about your feelings and fears.
