My experience with femSense - a user tells us

S

nce you get pregnant, it often sounds easier than it actually is. Julia also realised this when she and her husband wanted a baby. Find out why she now has reason to be happy and how femSense helped her in our exclusive blog interview.

Hello Julia! Thank you for your time for our little interview.

Of course I would love to. I'm so happy to be chatting with you guys and that I'm in a position where I can help other women. It's so taboo to talk about trying to get pregnant! You don't tell anyone about it until you're three months pregnant. Instead of supporting and counselling each other. I want to tell my story in the hope that perhaps other women will recognise themselves in it and femSense find earlier.

Perhaps you would like to start by telling us a little about yourself?

With pleasure! My name is Julia, I'm 30 years old and I live with my husband just outside Vienna. My husband and I have been together for six years and married for two years. Shortly after the wedding, we moved out of the city and into a terraced house. Partly because we were starting out, to wish for a baby. We simply wanted more space for our future family.

So you've been trying to have a child for a while?

After we got married, we decided to stop using contraception. I stopped taking the pill and we... well, let's just say we took a chance. (laughs) We thought that now was the right time to have children.

That must have been an exciting time for you, right?

Yes and no. I was very excited for the first two or three months. I immediately bought pregnancy tests and couldn't wait! But after test after test came back negative and my period came back every time, I started to get frustrated. I even started taking pregnancy vitamins as a precaution... but it just wouldn't work. This went on for six months. After a while, you really start to wonder whether something might be wrong.

What do you think it was?

Looking back now, I can say that I was probably just too naive. I always thought that sex alone was enough to get pregnant. But I had never really thought about my cycle, fertile days or ovulation before. After all, I had been taking the pill since I was 16 and didn't have to deal with it. I knew a few things from biology lessons, but that was far too long ago. In short: I had no idea what was going on in my body (smirks).

What did you do after six months?

We were already looking for ways to increase our chances of getting pregnant and we were also on the lookout for digital solutions. But it wasn't that easy. My cycle is not always exactly 28 days long, so there are a lot of Cycle apps already gone because they assume a standard cycle. So it had to be something more personalised that would also tell me more about myself and my cycle. But things like taking my temperature, monitoring cervical mucus, keeping a temperature chart, peeing on sticks... that was just too much work for me. So I was kind of looking for an all-round solution.

And that's when you came across femSense?

Exactly. I had the idea of using my smartphone to Tracking my cycle immediately appealed to me. I always have it with me anyway, and in combination with the sensor patch it was simply the perfect solution for me. The app was also really intuitive and easy to use. I stuck the patch under my armpit as instructed. First of all, I was unsure whether this patch would really stick. I go to the gym several times a week and am also very active in other ways - but the patch held up without any problems.

It really couldn't have been easier to use. The app told me when to apply the patch, which days were perfect for getting pregnant - and it also confirmed that I was ovulating. Incidentally, it happened two days later than I expected. Luckily femSense advised me to keep trying and then showed me my ovulation two days later. Otherwise I would definitely have missed it!

How long have you been using femSense to conceive?

I needed one pack, so three patches for three cycles. I don't need to buy any more at the moment (laughs).

So congratulations are in order?

Yes, you could say that (laughs). It took three cycles, but now we have confirmation that we are having a baby. I'm really happy and grateful for that!

That's really good news, congratulations! Do you think you will use or recommend femSense again?

Definitely! So if everything works and the desire to have children comes knocking again, femSense is definitely my first choice. In general, I want to continue using the app after the birth to keep track of my cycle. I think every woman with a natural cycle should do that. It's really amazing what your own body is capable of and what it can tell you if you just listen carefully. For me, that's really beautiful and femSense has played a big part in that.
